Who’s that Lady?

I have never been a big fan of Zeitgeist. It’s a really popular bar because it features about a zillion picnic benches in a giant backyard, six or seven sketchy Port-A-Potties, and a dominant black-hoodie-wearing aesthetic. You can vertically park your bike against a fence, order a pitcher of moderately-overpriced beer and cozy up with your fifty best friends and all of their best friends too, while sitting outdoors on an un-sunny Sunday all day long. These are the reasons Zeitgeist is popular.

These are also the reasons I hate Zeitgeist.

I don’t enjoy drinking in the woods. It’s cold, dirty and full of questionable characters, just like Zeitgeist itself. And after literally dropping my purse in a puddle of mud a few weeks ago, I gave up the ghost and finally accepted that I don’t like this bar, despite the fact that all my friends really really do.

There is one thing about Zeitgeist that I really really like: the Tamale Lady. A venerable San Francisco living legend, I love love love the Tamale Lady. She regularly shows up with a shopping cart full of delicious tamales (complete with hot sauce), greets the crowd with “Hello my babies,” wiggles her way between picnic tables, gives out hugs, and single-handedly improves everyone’s evening. She’s like a shooting star. Or a unicorn. Or a double rainbow. But with tamales.

That said, you can imagine my surprise and delight when I learned that BAVC’s November 28th Adobe party will be catered by none other than the lovely Tamale Lady herself! In addition to live music, drinks, and an awesome contest that lets you show off your best Adobe skills in Flash, After Effects, Premiere and Photoshop (and win Adobe software no less!), there will be free tamales personally provided by San Francisco’s very own Tamale Lady!

In short: music, drinks, awesome Adobe contest, free tamales. No mud. Nov. 28th 6-8pm @ BAVC.

Love the Tamale Lady. She does go to other bars in the area so you don’t need to go to Zeitgeist for her hugs. She’s a Mission/Castro icon. But supper cool that she’s gonna cater. It’ll give people from outside the area to experience a real San Francisco treat. All that an Adobe too. I’ll have to polish up on my Photoshop. Hope to see you there.
